The crowds gathered for the fireworks from early this morning - a bit keen given they had to wait for a 9:15 kickoff because it's not dark enough until then! The National Mall with all the monuments and reflecting pool is a National Park and is therefore run by park rangers. It's so strange to see the Park Rangers in the same outfits they wore in Yellowstone National Park, where the outfits made sense! Anyway, they looked after the mall today - 700,000 people were expected to be there and while I didn't count, I wouldn't be surprised at that number. The fireworks were amazing - so many red, white and blue ones, and even shaped as smiley faces! A great display for us all!!!
