Tuesday 1st July - off to Washington.

Today was a very early start - we'd booked our flights on Delta because they were the only ones who left Las Vegas at 8.30, until each day the trip got closer and our flight was moved forward to 7am!! So believe it or not the Powers made a 7am flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta (though we were the last on the plane), and then we jumped off the plane to get our connection (and to see a big screen at a bar showing the last set of the match between Nadal and Kyrgios - how exciting was that!!?)

We then caught our connecting flight to Washington DC - Emily thought she was finally getting her body clock sorted out, and we moved forward another 3 hours.  That really took up the whole day - by the time we found our hotel and rooms, we made our way to a great local Spanish restaurant and had a feast - really lovely food!!

We decided to have a day of museums because the temperature was predicted to be 36 + humidity (and it was), so air conditioning seemed like the best option. We bought metro tickets and found our way firstly to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Look who Finbarr found!!! Tommy Mac!! We knew we'd see the McCabe family in NYC (as bizarrely, out of all the hotels in NYC we happened to book the same hotel on the same dates!!) but we weren't sure we'd see them anywhere else.   2 very happy boys got to explore the Air and Space Museum together - lots of fun for them!!
