Tuesday 1st July - off to Washington.

Today was a very early start - we'd booked our flights on Delta because they were the only ones who left Las Vegas at 8.30, until each day the trip got closer and our flight was moved forward to 7am!! So believe it or not the Powers made a 7am flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta (though we were the last on the plane), and then we jumped off the plane to get our connection (and to see a big screen at a bar showing the last set of the match between Nadal and Kyrgios - how exciting was that!!?)

We then caught our connecting flight to Washington DC - Emily thought she was finally getting her body clock sorted out, and we moved forward another 3 hours.  That really took up the whole day - by the time we found our hotel and rooms, we made our way to a great local Spanish restaurant and had a feast - really lovely food!!

We decided to have a day of museums because the temperature was predicted to be 36 + humidity (and it was), so air conditioning seemed like the best option. We bought metro tickets and found our way firstly to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Look who Finbarr found!!! Tommy Mac!! We knew we'd see the McCabe family in NYC (as bizarrely, out of all the hotels in NYC we happened to book the same hotel on the same dates!!) but we weren't sure we'd see them anywhere else.   2 very happy boys got to explore the Air and Space Museum together - lots of fun for them!!

Wynns's buffet before Erin checked out our hotel - The Venetian.

Erin in Vegas

At Erin's hotel - The Bellagio

At Wynn's - flowers everywhere!

Boys' afternoon and Buffet dinner at Wynn's with Erin.

Damian and the boys came back very excited from their afternoon at a rifle range, thinking it was the best afternoon ever. Damian got to fire a WW11 MP40, P38 and M1, and Joseph an M249SAW, an M 4, a Beretta M9 and a Remington 700.  Finbarr joined in too (much to my dismay), with a Ruger MK3 with laser sights, and a Ruger 10/22.  I'm sure those numbers must mean something to many people but not to me! I'd rather they'd done just about anything else, but I know it's a boy thing and they had a great time.

My high school friend, Erin Moston, and I had worked out we were going to be in Las Vegas for one night at the same time, so had to make the most of the opportunity!! I met Erin at her hotel for a drink as she was going to be going to a show later that evening. Unfortunately loans went astray so luckily for us Erin was able to join us for dinner at the Wynn's buffet - the kids' special request. It was worth going just to see the Wynn's hotel - amazing and very Vegas, but quite pretty rather than tacky!!  The kids got our money's worth on the buffet (quite amazing to see what they choose to eat when left to their own devices)!!  It was great to catch up with Erin - how much fun!!

My healthy breakfast option - Monday 30th June

I wanted something light for breakfast today, so decided to order the fruit.  I think I must have accidentally ordered for 3 people. Look at the size of this plate!

Monday 30th June - still in Vegas

Another morning of shopping - this time in a shopping centre on the strip called Fashion Mall. Nice to be in air conditioning as the temperatures were in the mid 40 Celsius again, but at least it's a dry heat here so not too awful.

The girls and boys split after a while - having very different ideas on what is good fun...
Here's what the girls lined up for... (Carlos' Bakery - from the Cake Boss show)

Here's what the boys lined up for....

More food from Damian's birthday dinner - delicious!!
